About Byte Force
A community team powered by students and the people who support them.
Byte Force is a community-based FIRST Robotics Competition team for high school-aged students in Wake County. Students take responsibility for the work while mentors, families, and community volunteers help them learn and succeed.
Built to grow with the team.
Byte Force brings students together around challenging, hands-on work. Each season creates new opportunities to learn, lead, try a different role, and contribute to the team and community.
Student Roles
Students do the work of the team.
Roles are considered based on interest, performance, and commitment, and are reviewed annually. Students may grow within a role or explore a new area as the team’s needs evolve.
Team Leadership
Captains and subteam leads organize work, track progress, communicate, and help teammates succeed.
Build & Technical
Students design, build, wire, program, test, troubleshoot, and improve the robot.
Business, Media, & Outreach
Students support fundraising, sponsorship, grants, writing, social media, events, and community relationships.
Drive Team
Students operate and support the robot at competitions. These positions are earned through preparation and practice.
Scouting & Strategy
Students study the game, collect information, evaluate options, and help the team compete thoughtfully.
Adults Behind the Team
Many experiences can make a difference.
Parents, guardians, mentors, alumni, professionals, and community volunteers all help Byte Force operate. Technical experience is welcome, but it is not required for every role.
Mentors & Coaches
Experienced mentors guide students in engineering, programming, business, communications, safety, organization, and leadership.
Skills & Career Support
Adults can share professional, technical, creative, business, writing, media, or project-management experience.
Logistics & Events
Volunteers help with transportation, meals, chaperoning, shop supervision, events, and competition support.
Fundraising & Team Operations
Support includes sponsorship outreach, grant writing, finances, communications, scheduling, and behind-the-scenes organization.
FNC Competition Volunteering
Adults can also volunteer with FIRST North Carolina at competitions and help strengthen the broader robotics community.
There is a place to contribute.
Students and adults bring different interests, schedules, and experience. The team works best when everyone participates reliably and contributes where they can.
